Ingredients

  • 3 Bosc or Anjou pears peeled, halved lengthwise, and cored
  • 1 tablespoon orange zest
  • ½ cup orange juice
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon ground cardamom
  • ¼ teaspoon kosher salt
  • ½ cup maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ¼ cup walnuts chopped

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F.
  • Arrange the pear halves flat side up in a 9x13-inch baking dish.
  • In a bowl, whisk together the maple syrup, orange zest, orange juice, ground cinnamon, ground cardamom, salt, and vanilla extract.
  • Pour the maple syrup mixture over the pears, making sure to coat them well. Sprinkle the chopped walnuts over the top.
  • Bake for 15 minutes, then carefully flip the pears over, spooning some of the cooking liquid over them. Bake for an additional 15 minutes, until the pears are tender when pierced with a fork.
  • Let the pears cool for 10 minutes before serving. Serve each person 1½ pear halves with a drizzle of the syrup from the pan.

Notes

Store the baked pears in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. Enjoy them cold or reheat in the oven at 350°F for 15 minutes.
