Equipment

Ingredients

  • 3-4 large navel oranges or 5-6 mandarin oranges
  • 8 oz dark chocolate chips or chopped chocolate at least 60% cacao

Instructions

  • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.
  • Peel oranges and separate into individual segments. Remove any excess white pith.
  • Pat each orange segment completely dry with paper towels. This step is crucial for the chocolate to adhere properly.
  • Melt chocolate using your preferred method: In a double boiler, stir chocolate over simmering water until smooth. In microwave, heat in 30-second intervals, stirring between each interval until melted.
  • Hold each orange segment by one end and dip about ⅔ of it into the melted chocolate, allowing excess to drip off.
  • Place dipped oranges on the prepared parchment paper, leaving space between each piece.
  • Refrigerate for 15-20 minutes until chocolate is completely set.
  • Store in refrigerator for up to 3 days or freeze for up to 1 month.

Notes

Choose oranges with thick skin as they're easier to peel cleanly
Room temperature oranges are easier to work with than cold ones
Add a pinch of sea salt on top of the wet chocolate for a gourmet touch
For extra shine, add 1 teaspoon coconut oil to the melted chocolate
