Equipment

Ingredients

  • 2 large green apples Granny Smith works best
  • 1 cup chocolate chips dark, semisweet, or white - shop chocolate chips
  • 1 –2 teaspoons coconut oil to help the chocolate melt smoothly
  • Holiday sprinkles red and green
  • Optional: edible stars edible pearls, or other festive decorations

Instructions

  • Prep the apples: Slice apples into thin wedges, about ¼ inch thick. Pat each slice completely dry with a paper towel. This step is crucial for getting the chocolate to stick properly.
  • Melt the chocolate: Add chocolate chips and coconut oil to a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave in 20–30 second intervals, stirring between each, until smooth and glossy. Don't rush this step or you'll end up with seized chocolate.
  • Assemble the trees: On a parchment-lined baking sheet, arrange 3–4 apple slices in a staggered, overlapping "tree" shape. Start with the largest slice at the bottom and work your way up to smaller slices at the top.
  • Dip and drizzle: Dip the top edge of each slice into the melted chocolate, or use a spoon to drizzle chocolate down the center of your arranged tree to create a "garland" effect.
  • Decorate: Immediately add Christmas sprinkles, edible stars, or pearls before the chocolate sets. Work quickly here since the chocolate starts firming up fast.
  • Set: Refrigerate for 10–15 minutes, or until the chocolate is completely firm to the touch.
  • Serve: Enjoy right away for the crispest texture. These are best eaten within a few hours of making.

Notes

If you're prepping ahead or worried about browning, brush apple slices lightly with lemon juice after cutting. It won't affect the chocolate at all.
