Equipment

  • Silicone baking mat or parchment paper
  • Pastry brush
  • Sharp knife or kitchen shears
  • Small bowl for egg wash
  • Rolling pin (optional)

Ingredients

  • 1 sheet Sweet Loren's gluten-free puff pastry thawed
  • ½ cup Nutella or your favorite hazelnut spread
  • 1 egg whisked (for egg wash)
  • 2 tablespoons coarse sugar for sprinkling
  • 12-16 candy eyes for decoration

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
  • Cut and fill: Roll out the puff pastry sheet slightly on a clean surface, then cut it into rectangles (about 3x5 inches). You should get 6-8 rectangles. Spread 1-2 teaspoons of Nutella in the center of each rectangle, leaving about ½ inch space around the edges.
  • Create the mummy look: Using a sharp knife or kitchen shears, cut thin strips (about ¼ inch wide) on both sides of each rectangle, leaving the middle third intact where the Nutella sits. You should have 4-5 strips on each side. Fold the strips diagonally across the filling, alternating sides to create a bandage effect. Leave a small gap near the top for the eyes.
  • Brush and bake: Brush each mummy with egg wash, making sure to coat all the folds. Sprinkle coarse sugar over the top. Bake for 15-18 minutes, or until golden brown and flaky. The pastries should be deeply golden for the best flavor.
  • Add the eyes: Let cool for 5-10 minutes. Once slightly cooled, add a small dab of Nutella where you want the eyes and stick on two candy eyes per mummy.
