Gluten-free heart-shaped peanut butter and jelly sandwiches are so easy to make! You don't even need an uncrustables tool. You need two pieces of sandwich bread, peanut butter, jelly, and a heart-shaped cookie cutter.

Throwback Lunches
The best part of this recipe is that it's super simple. Remember when your mom used to make you a peanut butter sandwich for lunch? This recipe is a total throwback to that (except with heart shapes for sandwiches).
Equipment
- A heart-shaped cookie cutter
- A knife
Ingredients
- Gluten-free bread (or any regular slice of bread)
- Peanut butter
- Strawberry jelly
- Spread peanut butter and jelly on one slice of bread.
- Top that piece of bread with another slice of bread.
- Press the heart cookie cutter in the middle of the sandwich until the cookie cutter presses all the way down.
- Carefully remove the outer crust and place the heart sandwich on a plate.
- Store in an airtight container for up to three days. You can also store the sandwiches by wrapping them in plastic wrap.
Crust vs. No Crust
I'm not a fan of crust...are you? So, that's why this recipe is perfect for me! The cookie-cutter cuts off all the crust so all that's left is the side interior of the bread. If you do like sandwich crust, then save the extra for snacks later.
Gluten-Free Bread
My go-to gluten-free bread is Canyon Bakehouse. It's the best texture for gluten-free bread that I've found. I also like Scharr's GF bread products. They make great sourdough bread for gluten-free eaters.
Add-ins
The best part about this recipe is that you can customize it any way you want. For example, you could add some chopped apples or raisins to give it a little crunch. I like to add slices of banana or fresh strawberries to add a little something special!

FAQ
How many servings does this recipe make?
This recipe makes two sandwiches. If you want to make more, just double the ingredients.
What type of peanut butter should I use?
I like using smooth, all-natural peanut butter. But, you can also use crunchy peanut butter for this recipe. Or, switch out the peanut butter for healthy almond butter or even sunflower seed butter.
I don't like peanut butter. Can I use something else?
Yes! You can try almond butter, hazelnut butter, or sunflower seed butter instead of peanut butter. Or, omit the peanut butter completely and make jelly or jam sandwiches.
I don't like jelly. Can I use something else?
You can totally replace the jelly with sliced strawberries, raspberries, or bananas. Or, just leave the jelly out completely.
Can I use the cookie cutter on other sandwiches besides peanut butter and jelly sandwiches?
Yes! You can make heart-shaped sandwiches with almost every type of sandwich.
Can I use bread that isn't gluten-free?
Sure, just replace the gluten-free bread slices with regular bread slices.
How do I store these sandwiches?
Store in an airtight container for up to three days. You can also store the sandwiches by wrapping them in plastic wrap.
Do I need any special equipment like a sandwich cutter?
You don't need sandwich cutters or any other special equipment other than a heart-shaped cookie cutter. I prefer using a medium-sized heart for these sandwiches. This size makes the perfect 4 bite-size sandwiches!
Is there gluten in peanut butter?
Peanuts are considered naturally gluten-free. Make sure to take a look at the label before buying the jar of peanut butter. Make sure that the label does not list any gluten. Jif peanut butter is certified gluten-free.
