    Common Questions

    Can I use frozen cherries?

Yes, you can use frozen cherries in place of fresh ones. Just be sure to thaw them first. Or, you can use fresh cherries. Just make sure to pit them! Fresh cherries come with pits.

    Do I need simple syrup?

No. In this recipe, the grenadine does all the work.

Do I need a cocktail shaker?

You can totally use a cocktail shaker, but I stir and then strain (check out my video).

How do I serve this drink?

You can serve this drink over ice, but if you want to add some fun, try serving it in a martini glass. If you're using an actual martini glass, just fill it up halfway with club soda. Otherwise, fill your favorite glass with club soda and garnish it with a maraschino cherry on top.

What else should I know about this recipe?

I recommend keeping this drink chilled until right before serving. It's best served cold so that the flavors are as intense as possible.

    How do you pit cherries?

The easiest way is to get a cherry pitter. But, good news! Maraschino cherries don't typically need to be pitted. There is also

How do you measure a shot of vodka?

A shot of vodka is 3 ounces. So, when measuring out ½ cup of vodka, pour it into a measuring cup and then level it off by running the back of a knife across the inside of the measuring cup. Or, you can just eyeball it, too!

I don't like vodka? Can I use a different liquor?

Of course! Feel free to substitute any liquor you'd like instead of vodka. Try gin, tequila, rum, bourbon, etc.

Do you have more recipes like this one?

Yes! Check out my drinks page to see all my cocktail creations.
