These wreath Christmas cookies are my favorite Christmas cookie recipe! A little background: My grandma was once at a Christmas lunch where they served these festive treats. She asked for the recipe and couldn't believe it was only made from simple ingredients like marshmallows, cornflakes, and red hot candies (plus a touch of green food coloring). Gluten Free Cornflakes
PSA: Kellogg's Cornflake are NOT gluten-free. They contain malt, which is derived from wheat, so it's not safe for gluten intolerance or the gluten-free diet. However, there are a few great cornflake substitutes so you can make these cornflake wreaths for those with celiac disease. I like Nature's Path Organic Gluten-Free Corn Flakes. They taste the same to me and you can find this brand in most grocery stores.

Recipe Ingredients
- Cornflakes: I use Nature's Path Organic Gluten-Free Corn Flakes because they are gluten-free. If you're not gluten-free, use any brand of cornflakes to make these delicious cookies.
- Marshmallows: plain marshmallows are best for this recipe, although you can use a flavored variety. Use mini marshmallows or regular marshmallows. The marshmallows make these chewy cookies so delectable and such an easy recipe.
- Butter: unsalted butter or salted butter does the trick.
- Green food coloring: you can omit it, but since these cookies are wreaths, I think green food coloring is essential for the gorgeous green color. I use green gel food coloring, although any type of food coloring will work and mix well to make this wreath cookies recipe.
- Red Hot Candies: you can find these red candies in most baking aisles or candy aisles called red hots. You can also skip these, but the cinnamon candies do add an extra flavor to the wreath cookies.

Ingredient Substitutions
- Cornflakes - instead of cornflakes, use puffed rice cereal. Rice Krispies contain gluten, so use an alternative like Nature's Path Organic Gluten-Free Crispy Rice Cereal.
- Marshmallows - use vegan marshmallows and vegan butter for a dairy-free option.
Gluten-Free Wreath Cookies Variations
- Almond extract - add 1 teaspoon almond extract to the melted marshmallow mixture.
- Vanilla extract - add 1 teaspoon vanilla extract to the melted marshmallow mixture.
- White Chocolate - add white chocolate chips on top of the wreaths instead of red hot candies.
Key Equipment
- Ice Water - use a bowl of ice water to dip your hands in to prevent any marshmallow stickiness. You can also spray your hands with non-stick cooking spray.
- Glass mixing bowls - are essential for this recipe and they're microwave-safe.
- Spatula - get a good rubber spatula.
- Precut parchment paper - essential and a total game-changer.
- Cookie sheet - for organizing the cookies.
How to Store Gluten-Free Wreath Cookies
Store the wreath Christmas cookies in an airtight storage container for up to two weeks at room temperature. You can also wrap the cookies in plastic wrap.
Can You Freeze Gluten-Free Wreath Cookies?
I do not recommend freezing the cookie wreaths because the cornflakes will get soggy. The cookies will last up to two weeks in an airtight container.
