I’ve been thinking a lot about this butter board trend. I think it started when Justine Doiron of Justine Snacks posted her beautiful butter board creation. And I’m just like this is a fabulous idea!! Why have we not been doing this for years?
I made mine with gluten-free cornbread instead of crusty bread and salted honey butter cornbread is a lot faster than making gluten-free bread from scratch!
But back to the whole idea of butter board. Are they the new charcuterie board? Would you order a butter board at a restaurant?! I want to know what you think!

Ingredients
- Gluten-free flour: I use King Arthur's gluten-free flour for this recipe. This flour is what makes this galette gluten-free.
- Cornmeal
- Granulated sugar
- Salt
- Baking powder
- Butter: I used softened Kerrygold butter.
- Eggs
- Whole milk
- Honey
See recipe card for quantities.
Instructions
Preheat the oven to 400 degrees and grease an 8x8 square baking pan. Set aside.
Whisk together the sugar and melted butter in a large bowl. Add the egg and honey and mix.
Now add the dry ingredients. Add the gluten-free flour, cornmeal, baking powder, and salt. Fold the mixture together.
Pour in the whole milk and whisk until there aren't any clumps.
Pour the cornbread batter into the 8x8 prepared baking pan and bake for 30 minutes.
Remove the cornbread from the oven and let cool before slicing it into squares.
Use a fork to mix the softened butter and honey together in a small bowl.
Grab your board and layer the butter in the middle using a butter knife and top with flaky salt and a drizzle of honey. Pile the cornbread on the sides of the board.
Ta-da!
Hint: I used a baking sheet for my board, but you can also use a wooden cutting board or a wooden board.
Variations
- Hot Honey - add hot honey to the butter instead of regular honey.
- Black Pepper - add freshly cracked black pepper on top of the butter after putting it on the board.
- Lemon zest - add 1 teaspoon of lemon zest or orange zest to the butter. The citrus zest will give the butter a fresh twist.
- Roasted Garlic - add one clove of roasted garlic to the honey butter to make this more of of a compound butter.
- Chili Flakes - add 1 teaspoon chili flakes to the butter for a spicy twist.
