I just love a chocolate orange combination. I think it tastes so fabulous and fresh! Plus, I'm still recovering from COVID so I'm trying to eat a lot of vitamin C. Did you know orange peels have 3X the amount of vitamin C that the inside of an orange does?

I added some unsalted roasted almonds to the chocolate bark for some protein and crunch, too. This chocolate bark is only 3 ingredients and is the perfect treat for after school, long afternoons, and all occasions in between.

Is there anything better than an easy dessert that has some health benefits, too?

    Ingredients

This orange almond chocolate bark recipe only has 3 ingredients.

    orange-almond-chocolate-bark
    • Dark chocolate: I use Lindt 70% dark chocolate bars for this recipe. They're easy to melt and taste wonderful.
    • Orange peels: just use a peeler to peel two oranges.
    • Unsalted roasted almonds: I love almonds, but you can easily use hazelnuts, peanuts, or any other nut instead.

    See recipe card for quantities.

    Instructions

Prepare a quarter baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.

    orange-peel

Peel two oranges using a vegetable peeler. Set the peels aside.

    melting-chocolate

Roughly chop the chocolate and pour it into a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave on high at 30-second intervals for 2 minutes, stirring in between.

    almonds-and-chocolate

Pour the whole almonds into the bowl of melted chocolate and stir.

Pour the chocolate almond mixture onto the parchment paper-lined baking sheet and use a spatula to spread evenly. Top with the orange peels.

Chill in the refrigerator for 20 minutes before roughly chopping the chocolate bark.

Store at room temperature in an airtight container.

Hint: You need a really good vegetable peeler to peel the oranges. This is a great one.

    Substitutions

    • Almonds - use any type of nut if you don't like almonds or don't have them handy. Think of nuts like cashews, hazelnuts, and pistachios.

See this Valentine's Day version of my chocolate bark HERE.

    Variations

    • Salt - you can add a sprinkling of flaky sea salt on top of the chocolate bark to bring out the chocolate flavor even more.

    Equipment

    • Glass mixing bowls - my favorite set is on sale right now on Amazon.
    • Rubber spatula - a must for this recipe.
    • Baking sheet - necessary for making this chocolate bark recipe.
    • Precut parchment paper - I love precut parchment paper for all recipes.

    Storage

Roughly chop the chocolate bark -- no need for the pieces to look perfect.

    FAQ

    Do you toast the almonds?

No, you don't need to toast the almonds for this recipe. However, you sure can. Toast the almonds on a baking sheet in the oven at 350 for 7-10 minutes.

Can you add orange oil to chocolate?

You can, but just make sure it's an orange oil that is specifically made to be added to chocolate. Otherwise, the chocolate can be ruined. Nielson Malley makes an awesome flavoring for this.

Can you add extract to chocolate bark?

Yes, first microwave the chocolate at 30-second intervals until melted and slowly stir in room temperature extract.

Is almond bark the same as chocolate bark?

Not really. Almond bark is chocolate that is made specifically for melting while chocolate bark is made with chocolate that isn't specifically made for melting. This recipe is for chocolate bark.
