Healthy (ish) Brownies

Nov 15, 2021 · Leave a Comment

Sharing is caring!

I love making brownies. They're the perfect easy recipe to make when you don't have a lot of time. I'm not sure if it's because they are so simple or because they are just plain delicious, but these extra chocolatey, not too sweet, fudgy brownies are one of my favorite recipes!

These brownies are healthier than other brownie recipes because I don't add as much sugar. There is enough chocolate and cocoa powder to make up for the lack of sugar. And, then it's healthier! I'm all about cutting sugar where you can.

Brownie Ingredients

  • Unsweetened Chocolate
  • Unsalted butter
  • Granulated Sugar
  • Eggs
  • Gluten-free Flour
  • Baking Powder
  • Vanilla Extract or Almond Extract
  • Unsweetened Cocoa Powder

Add-In Ingredients

  • Chopped Walnuts
  • Chopped Almonds
  • Peanut Butter Cups
  • Unsalted Hazelnuts
  • Chunks of Chocolate

Common Questions

What Pan Should I Use?

You should use a 9x13 inch pan. You want them to be tall and thin. If your pan has a lip on the sides, that will help keep the edges from getting soggy. You can also use an 8-inch square pan. I line my pan with parchment paper for easy removal.

How Long Do They Bake?

They bake at 350 degrees F for 25 minutes. That's what I've always done. But, some people say they like their brownies with a little more gooey center. So, if you'd prefer yours with a bit more gooiness then bake them for 20 minutes.

How Can I Tell When The Brownies Are Done?

Insert a toothpick at the center. If the toothpick comes out clean or only with a few crumbs, the brownies are done. If the toothpick comes out with raw batter, then continue baking.

How Long Do They Last In The Freezer?

The best way to freeze brownies is to wrap them individually in plastic wrap and place them in a ziplock bag. This keeps them from sticking together and helps prevent freezer burn. Freeze them for 3 months.

Is It Ok If My Brownies Have A Crumbly Top?

Yes! Don't worry about it. Just enjoy them!

Can I Make These In A Food Processor?

Yes, but expect them to be dense.

Can I Use Dark Chocolate!

Yes!
